In some cultures, men's hair is expected to be kept short. In other cultures (and sub-cultures) though, men are at liberty to choose whether to wear their hair short or long. Surprisingly, where this is the case, many men choose to wear their hair long: meaning that had they more freedom to choose (without fear of social frowns), many men would opt for long hair. Men who are not in professional undertakings could also decide to wear their hair long, well beyond shoulder level - and with the frontal portion of it falling over to cover the eyes. This is about 'breaking all the rules' for as we saw earlier, formal settings require that hair be kept at shoulder level, and not be let to get in front of the eye, if indeed it must be worn tall. So the man opting for this look, where hair is let to grow taller beyond shoulder level, and where it is also allowed to get into the line of vision is in effect saying that he doesn't subscribe to the rules of the 'establishment.'
Then there is another popular picking among the men's long haircuts, where the hair is kept at shoulder level, but this time parted approximately at the middle. After parting, the hair is then layered - leading to what is often a very elegant look. This is a style that is considered reasonably modern, so that even the youngest of men find it something worth considering, if they fancy wearing their hair long.
